 Â
With a passion for drawing and etching local artists Denise Scholz-Wulfing and Kirsten Griffiths have teamed up to create an exhibition of creative and engaging images of vulnerable local flora and fauna.
Denise and Kirsten became friends through a shared appreciation for the painstaking art of printmaking. The thoughtfulness and care that goes into a drypoint etching makes it an ideal medium to draw attention to the fragile creatures and plants that we often overlook.
Denise has combined her drawing and etching skills with an interest in bird watching and conservation to create large scale drypoint etchings of vulnerable birds. These works have text added, provoking the viewer into thinking Where is that bird? The text is printed using old letterpress type on the original Boorowa News printing press which is housed in the Print Studio of the Boorowa Museum and is still in full working order.
Kirsten has a soft spot for frogs and the smaller vulnerable plants and creatures of the Hilltops region. Some of her delicately drawn and coloured drypoint etchings feature the technique of a la poupee. This involves the inking of a drypoint plate with more than one colour, then printing the plate using an etching press to produce a final colourful image.
Both of these techniques will be demonstrated and discussed. Artists’ talks on inspiration, creative method and printing techniques will be held at 11 am and 1 pm on all three Saturdays of the Art Trail at the Boorowa Museum Print Studio.
