IT'S OUR CHEF THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

At The Light Horse Hotel, we are proud of our dedicated restaurant team, led by our talented head chef, Vincent Kumar, whose passion for culinary excellence sets the standard for every dish we create. Working alongside him is Kundan, our skilled sous chef, whose expertise and creativity bring every dish to life. Together, they mentor our two local apprentices, Brad and Hunter, who are eager to learn the art of fine cooking. This team’s commitment to quality and innovation ensures that every meal served is a true reflection of the pride they take in their craft.

Where Heritage Meets Hospitality

The moment you step inside, The Light Horse Hotel immerses you in a bygone era of craftsmanship and authenticity. Enjoy memorable encounters and great conversations, as our knowledgeable bartenders serve local craft beer from nearby Bulla Creek, award winning Hilltops wines and a diverse range of spirits, and cocktails. After a long day of exploring the Hilltops region, retreat to your comfortable room, or savour a meal crafted by our award-winning chef, who ensures that the freshest seasonal ingredients are at the heart of every delicious dish.

THE LIGHT HORSE HOTEL An Historic Gem Revived

Originally built in 1861, this Victorian treasure, The Light Horse Hotel, has withstood the test of time, thanks to small refurbishments that preserved its charm.

Restored Elegance with Modern Comfort

Experience the lovingly restored grandeur of The Light Horse Hotel. Original features like high ornate ceilings and exposed brickwork in the main bar and the gin and whisky rooms have been meticulously preserved. Discover hidden fireplaces and beautiful floorboards that were once concealed beneath heavy carpet. Upstairs, three bathrooms and twelve guest rooms have been upgraded to provide modern comforts while showcasing the building’s Victorian heritage with a contemporary edge.

This iconic establishment, initially known as ‘The Commercial,’ has served the community for over a century before being renamed ‘The Light Horse Hotel’ in honour of the Australian Light Horse’s historical significance.

Preservation of The Light Horse Hotel

In 2018, The Light Horse Hotel faced an uncertain future when it was put up for sale and risked being acquired by a ‘land banker.’ The community, particularly those involved with the Memorial and the bronzing of Bill the Bastard, feared losing this historic landmark. Thanks to the efforts of Rhys Gray, chairman of the committee, the hotel was secured and saved from being taken out of circulation.

After undergoing renovations, The Light Horse Hotel reopened in April 2023 under the stewardship of Rhys Gray as the publican. Today, it stands as a beautifully restored testament to Harden-Murrumburrah’s history, offering a unique and enriching experience for visitors.
